Pop-rock phenomenon OneRepublic ignites the 2010 St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concert series with vocal fireworks on Sunday, July 4. Celebrating Independence Day while setting a powerful tone for the summer season, this chart-topping band heats up Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater with its distinct, Grammy-nominated and ever-so-hum-along-able tunes at 7 p.m.
Comprised of songwriter/front man Ryan Tedder (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Zach Filkins (guitar, backing vocals), Drew Brown (guitar), Brent Kutzle (bass, cello) and Eddie Fisher (drums), OneRepublic forged a new path to stardom with the Tedder-penned single “Apologize.” The remix of the hit rocketed OneRepublic to the forefront faster than a smokin’ hot roman candle — particularly when the tune soared into the stratosphere on MySpace. According to All Music Guide, the single was the most popular download in American history.
Hardly a one-hit-wonder, OneRepublic has two albums and an array of R&B-tinged tunes and ballads, which London’s Sunday Times calls “impeccably played with just the right amount of sonic surprises.” Tedder’s songwriting finesse hasn’t just shone through OneRepublic’s hits, such as “All the Right Moves,” he’s also crafted songs for an array of musicians. Among his writing credits are Beyoncé's “Halo,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Already Gone” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love.” Plus, he’s teamed up with rappers such as Lil Jon and Bubba Sparxxx. His work spans hip-hop and pop and he’s not afraid to jump into the genre-defying mix with two feet — nor is his band.
One of Rolling Stone’s “artists to watch,” the Colorado-based OneRepublic swaps instruments on-stage, showing remarkable versatility and musicianship as well as an ability to rock out and have a good time. After all, OneRepublic was started by a couple of high school friends, who toughed out the L.A. music scene and beat the industry odds. Though often likened to Coldplay, OneRepublic is its own band with its own sound and its own style. It’s the perfect fit for celebrating July Fourth.
